When the notion of painting custom maps occured to me years ago, I envisioned travel maps; I didn't anticipate how meaningful and profound travel maps can be – and usually are. This client commissioned a map showing the journey she and her husband undertook for a Chinese baby girl they'd adopted. In this as in many other canvases, regional colors and designs prescribe the look of the map.
