Before my client and her fiancé got married, they quit their jobs and traveled throughout Asia for a year, working occasionally to support themselves. This map was a wedding gift from the bride to the groom. Southeast Asia lends itself to sumptuous design and a touch of metallic gold paint – what a treat for me! While I was painting the map, the recent earthquake in Nepal destroyed the mountain spot where the groom had proposed, and had heaviliy damaged Kathmandu's Swayambunath Stupa (popularly known as the Monkey Temple, and depicted here as part of the scale of miles).
